We are delighted to announce a new event funded by the Greater Cambridge Partnership and delivered by Form the Future and Cambridge Regional College. Timed to coincide with National Careers Week, the first annual Primary Careers Fair – Cambridge is for Year 5 and 6 pupils (ages 9-11) from primary schools across Cambridge. We anticipate up to 500 pupils will attend and more than 30 local employers will exhibit.

Objectives for the Event:

· Inspire children to think about aspirational careers from an early age

· Allow children to meet with a range of local employers from different industries in the Cambridge area

· Raise young people’s understanding of the range of different jobs available

· Support schools in providing careers education (student workbooks and pre-and post-event resources for teachers will be provided)

· Provide employers with a showcase to promote their companies to local children

 

Benefits to Pupils:

• Understand what a person actually does when they’re at work

• Find out information about job sectors, growth areas and jobs they know nothing about

• Chance to hear from a range of employers as to what skills they are looking for from young people

• Hear up to date information about the world of work beyond school

• Understand the real-life context of what they are studying in school

 

Benefits to Employers:

• Engage with young people who have not yet decided on subject choices or careers

• Meet the next generation of employees

• Debunk myths about particular jobs/sectors

• Get innovative and creative ideas from young people which can be used in your business/sector
